JUNIOR ANGLER EDUCATION PROGRAM

 -LEARN TO FISH

The Long Lake Fishing Club and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will sponsor a Junior Angler Program, which will be held in “Chinatown” on Long Lake.

The program will be on Tuesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 13.  Activities run from 9 am – 11:30 am each day and include:

  • fish habitat investigations
  • fish identification
  • introduction to fishing equipment
  • fish filleting/cleaning
  • opportunity to fish

On Thursday, participants should bring fishing gear, water bottle, and dressed for the occasion (remember hat with visor, sunglasses, and wear suntan lotion).  A limited supply of fishing equipment is available for loan so those who don’t have a rod and reel can join in the fun.

There is no charge for the program which is geared for participants ages 8 and older.  Enrollment is limited to 20 (twenty) and the deadline for registration is July 27.

Please contact Nancy Durn at 920-960-0370 or 920-960-7322 for more information or to register

New Update on Bike Trail-May 15

A new bike trail covering 6.5 miles connecting the Long Lake and Mauthe Lake recreation areas was completed in late 2008 and was officially open and dedicated with a walk/run on May 9. The Long Lake Fishing Club was a strong advocate for this trail beginning in the 1980's. The original idea was to provide off-road biking in a safe environment because of the windy, narrow roads in the Kettle Moraine. It has already proven to be popular and not only for bikers. Families enjoy the walk through forest and prairie as well as serious runners.. The trail’s difficulty level appeals to riders of all skills. It is constructed of compacted fine gravel with boardwalks through swampy areas. The trail has access points at Mauthe Lake and Long Lake plus via a new parking lot east of Dundee on Highway F. Beyond connecting the two lake areas, the trail runs through Dundee where riders and hikers can stop for something to eat and pick up supplies from local businesses.
