December 21- There was not much activity on the ice, only a few people out. Chuck said even on the north end there are only a few inches of ice. On a different note I drove past Kettle Morraine, and they were DRIVING on. Merry Christmas John H.

December 15- We finally have enough ice to creep out and put in a few tipups. About 2-3 inches so far and by next weekend should be in better shape. As per usual the snake northerns are active. John H.

October 12 - A note for the Walleye fisherman. Over the weekend 1700 4-8in Walleye fingerlings were stocked by the club. The DNR also came thru in July putting in about 14,495 fingerlings. Hopefully in a few years we will see some results. John H.

Aug 17 - Bernice turned on in the slop.  Long, Crooked and Beechwood slow.

Aug 8 - If you enjoy fishing in the rain the bass are hitting in the slop on Long Lake!  Check out Mr. Fisherman's catch there: 19 and 20 inch "rain beauties"!

July 23- Bass being caught on Auburn and Beechwood.  The rest stays the same.

July 13- John H. reports: After cooking over 1000 brats, burgers, and sausage for Dundee Days with Tom Flasch, Karen and Eric Simon I took a few hours each evening to fish. I worked with crawlers, and crank baits off the drops with no luck. I was out fished by a bird! Ya, the Osprey nailed a  crappie one night, and a small bass the next that Mr. Fisherman wont ever get. Slight algae bloom starting to take effect with weeds pretty heavy in the shallows.

July 12- Mr. Fisherman reports that he heard the crappies and blue gills are biting as well as the perch and northern. Bass fishing remains tough.  He did catch a 34" northern on a green buzz bait Thursday night. The fished was released after a half hour of resucitation.

July 7- Benson's Century Camping Resort reports that nice size perch are being caught on Long and some northern.  The other panfish and bass are elusive and small when caught.  Lots of water sports activity on the lake over the holiday weekend.

June 24 - Heard the blue gills were up in the shallows.

June 7- Fished Sat. morning in the Glenn Hennig Tournament. NE wind wasn't nice and when it started raining I was glad I had a rain suit. Still a lot of algae.  I tried working crawlers and most of my casts came in with green slime, thou not as bad as a few weeks ago. I mainly worked the north end.  Out of 16 people about a dozen bass and only 5 northerns.  All CPR.   Police boat was active blue light flashing all morning watch your speed. J.H.  Click here for results

June 6- Fishing is sporadic with the fluctuating weather.  Not much being caught.

May 8 - Opening day water temps are in the 50s some fish being caught deep.  Nothing in the shallows.

John H. reports -  Tried fishing off the beaches. The lake is in bloom, algae all over the place. Every cast a pile of slime.  Don't forget the fishing contest on June 6th. Club started stocking Walleye on May 8th. Put in about 400 extended growth.

April 1- Some black ice still on parts of the lake.  Opening day will be here soon enough.  Get ready!

March 2-John H. reports: Was out over the weekend for last try for gamefish. Fished for 6 hours with dismal results. Mr Fisherman would be mad at me because I caught 2 of his bass, but that was it. I did not catch a fish on a tip up all season, all came jigging. The Simon crew out, and they were all playing football on the ice. That just shows it was slow. Still over 20 inches of ice.

Feb Fisheree Results/Winners by J Hrovat

Highlight of the day was the local Game Warden pointing out to a club member that his flag was up on his tip up…Geez I wonder who that was?  Many thanks to all the volunteers ,and to all who supported the club by participating.

WINNER OF THE TENT RAFFLE            JIM HEDRICK

Feb 9 - With the temps in the high 40's ,and with the wind blowing near 40mph trucks going down the ice were putting up spray. What the heck is going on? The tent put up Friday blew down and had to be reset, but things got better as the day went. Over 40 northerns were registered, the biggest 28in.; 4 bass , the biggest over 17; and 2 walleyes, the biggest 24 1/8.   Panfish were finicky with small fish winning.

Jan 29- Lots of ice but fishing is slow

Dec. 14- J.H.(LLFC-V.P.) reports: Finally enough ice to walk on Long. The heavy snow of last week is not helping the ice thickness. Was out Sat. Dec. 13th from 3-6;30pm ,and true to my fishing success, not even a nibble. Ice varies on the south end from 3-5 inches, the thinner ice is farther off shore, so be careful. Hard walking with all the slush under the snow.

Nov. 23- The lakes are freezing over.  Hard water fishing will start soon!

Nov. 9 - J.H. reports:  Maybe the gils were biting. but I tried for 4 hours Tues. afternoon with crawlers and minnows. Not a hit. The only exciting thing besides the nice weather was the Sea Plane doing takoffs and landings right down the lake. Water temp 50 degrees.

Oct 31- Heard the bluegills were biting in about 3-4 ft. of water, but who knows for how long.  Warmer weather predicted for the weekend.  Will it bring out the big ones?  E mail the webmaster webmaster@longlakefishingclub.com and let usknow how you did.

It O"fish"al

The Wisconsin DNR has with encouragement from the Long Lake Fishing Club, proposed a rule change for Northern Pick on Long Lake.  The rule change was voted on at last years Conservation Congress and was passed.

While we were told last fall that it was formally approved and would be added to the 2008/09 regulation book, one never knows for sure until you see it in the
book.  Well I am hear to tell you that it is O"fish"al!  I resently stopped by Din's to purchase my new fishing license and fishing regulation book.  The
fish thing I did was flip to the "Special Regulation-Listed by County" page and look up Fond du Lac.  On page 29 there it was. "* Long Lake: There is no minimum length limit on northern pike and the daily bag limit is 5."

This new regulation will start on May 3rd, 2008 Opening Day.  It will be interesting to see how the new rule will effect the size of the northern population and other fish populations in the lake.

One of the things I am looking forward to is being able to keep some of the 20 - 24 inchers I catch and pickeling them.  Better then herring in my opinion.

The other thing I will enjoy is being able to allow the children to keep their fish which even at 20 inches seems hugh, rather than telling them "It's to small, you have to throw it back."

Hope to see lots of you out on waters.

John Koerble

Oct. 23- Weather turning chilly and many out looking for northern.  Rumor has it that a big 23 in., 7+ pound large mouth bass was caught on a 5 inch blue gill meant for those northern!  Waiting for the picture so we can all see!

George Hudson Fishing Tourney Winners - John H. reports

On SEPT. 27-28, 2008, 11 fishermen and women participated in this years event headquartered at Bensons Hideaway with 32 fish registered  Day one started out clear, calm, and warmed quite nicely. Late Saturday a front moved thru switching the winds to a  northerly direction with cloudy skies and Sundays temps just topping 60.  The best fish action came on Sunday with the fish moving shallower. No Walleyes were brought in, but some anglers had them on.

The 2008 Long Lake Fishing Club Ice Fisheree

With temperatures in the high 20’s for most of the day, this years fisheree on Long Lake was almost tropical in comparison to last years event which was held on the coldest day of the year.  As the dark predawn gave way to an overcast morning sky, small villages of anglers could be seen at various secret locations around the lake vying for the attention of the big ones.  It wasn’t long after sun up that the fish started coming in to be registered.  First in where the Northerns and some Largemouth Bass, with all but a few of these game fish being released back into the lake to bite again another day.  Anglers registering and then releasing any game fish where entered into a $100 catch and release contest.  A little later in the morning nice catches of Bluegills and Crappies mixed with a few Perch came in.  Since early settlement days, Long Lake has been known for its ability to produce and maintain a solid population of pan fish and this years event showed this is still the case. The only fish to stay well hidden were the Walleyes.  Word on the ice has it that they sensed the presence of that mysterious angler known as The Walleye Master and where hold up in some secret hole.   It was fun to see the large number of local residents and those just driving by on Highway 67 who ventures out on the ice to inspect the fish, listen to fish stories and enjoy a meal out on the lake.  The Club’s headquarters was a pair of tents set up on the lake just out from Mr. Ed’s Campground north of Dundee.  Tents on the lake!  The people down south must think we are balmy.  Club members stayed busy serving brats from Kewaskum Frozen Foods, burgers from Loehr’s in Campbellsport and bowls of delicious homemade chili.  All kids who came out received a depth finder and HT Enterprise jig poles where given away each hour as door prizes.  At 4pm fish registration was closed and prizes were awarded to the following anglers.

Northern: 1st place 32” John Meyer, 2nd place 28 ¾” Boyd Stuffel, 3rd place 28” Jason Thelen.

Bass: 1st place 18 3/8” Joey Bialk, 2nd place 16 3/8” Larry Brack, 3rd place 16 1/8” Dave Zolp.

Walleye: None registered

Crappie: 1st place 12 ½” Don Stageman, 2nd place 12 ¼” Brian Nitschkie, 3rd place 12 1/8” Trevor Bubliz.

Bluegill: 1st place 9 1/4” Dave Zolp, 2nd place 9 3/16” Dan Zolp, 3rd place 9 1/8” Dan Zolp.

Perch: 1st place 10 3/8” Victor Bauman, 2nd place 9 5/8” Chad Ebert, 3rd place 9 3/8” Chad Ebert No bullhead was registered.

In the catch and release event, prizes went to Jason Sarauer $50, Colton O’Brien $25 and Brian Mehevic $25. A new raffle was held this year only for anglers registering fish.  $1 chances were sold for a two man HT Enterprise portable ice shanty and the winner was Bill Bech.

The club would like to thank all its members who helped make this event a success and the many area businesses who donated prizes for our winter raffle ticket.  See out ad in today’s paper for the prizes and the winners.  We would also like to thank the Campbellsport News for providing space in their fine paper for articles about our club and its activities.  See you on the Lake!
