From the “Prez”
By Charles Benson
The summer of 2007 is fleeting as I write this article.  Once again it has been a good and bad summer depending on how we look at it.

I take to the pen again with great remorse over the passing of my sister-in-law Judy Benson.  She was a great club supporter and would go out of her way to accommodate the LLFC board and our club.  She will be sorely missed by both my family and this club.  We all wish Bill and his family the best.

On a lighter note it is a bad summer for those of us who dig our own worms.  If I had a backhoe I could go fishing.  But as is, I have to wait until either the fall or a monsoon.  I heard the Walleyes are committing suicide so maybe I’ll call a rent-a-shop (for that backhoe).

Control the Spread of Fish Diseases and Invasive Plant Species

By doing the following three Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recommendations, you can help control the spread of fish diseases and invasive plant species.
  • Do not throw infected fish back into a lake or other natural water body. Instead, place the fish in the garbage or bury them.
  • Thoroughly dry all equipment (outside of boats and trailers, nets, boots, etc.) when moving from one water body to another.
  • Drain all live wells and bilges away from lakes and rivers, on soil if possible so the water does not run into a natural water body. Because it is difficult to dry live wells and bilges completely, these areas can be disinfected with a bleach solution (one cup bleach in five gallons of water).

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, each year more than 1.3 million fishing licenses are sold and more than 61 million fish are caught
