Wisconsin Fishing Record – Smallmouth Bass (06/21/1950)         9 lbs 1 oz  Length n/a

Indian Lake, Oneida County

On the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd, the Long Lake Fishing Club held its annual fall fishing event.  This year’s event was given a new name in honor of a long time board member George Hudson who took that long fishing trip home this year.

As always, this year’s event gave us some surprises.  There were 15 anglers registered catching a total of 23 fish. They included 7 keeper Northern Pike between 26 1/4” and 30 1/2”.  In the Walleye category, there were three fish registered; 18 1/4”, 19 3/4” and 20 1/2”.  A big surprise came in the Large Mouth Bass category with only 3 bass registered; 16 1/8”, 17” and 18 3/4”.  Some said that the front which went through the night before put them off the bite.  Tell that to the Northern!  Six perch measuring between 4” and 10 1/4” were registered.  Even those small ones counted.  While those small Perch might not seem like much, they did play a part in the eventual winner’s total.  Eight Bluegills were registered measuring between 6” and 6 1/2”.  And another surprise was that only one crappie was registered measuring 9”.

As to the winners, prizes were given out based on the total points of each angler.  Anglers received one point for each inch of fish registered.  Anglers were allowed to register one fish from each category, with the largest fish from the two days counting.

Here are the winners and their point totals

  • First Place – Matt Kissinger - 60.875 points
  • Second Place – Boyd Stoffel - 60 points
  • Third Place – Don Enders – 43.5 points
  • Fourth Place – Fred Berthlein – 43.125 points
  • Fifth Place – Mike Schuette – 43 points
  • Sixth Place – Jeff Berthlein – 42.5 points
